Saitama - Beschreibung
Nun ist zusammengewachsen, was sowieso schon ineinander verschmolzen ist - die Städte Ōmiya 大宮 und Urawa 浦和. Eventuell kommt später noch Iwatsuki 岩槻 dazu. Und so entstand eine neue Millionenstadt. Das administrative, nagelneue Zentrum der Stadt sowie der ganzen Präfektur Saitama befindet sich zwischen Ōmiya und Urawa und wird Saitama Shintoshin さいたま新都心 (Neues Stadtzentrum Saitama) genannt. Soll zu einem der grossen Hauptstadtrandgebietszentren ausgebaut werden.
Arakawa mit Fluttor bei Toda-shi
Das Photo ist nicht direkt in Saitama, sondern am Arakawa 荒川 (kawa = Fluss) bei der Stadt Toda 戸田 aufgenommen worden. Der Arakawa trennt Tōkyō-to von der Präfektur Saitama. Aufgrund der hohen Niederschlagsmengen (in Tokyo um 1500 mm, in Berlin 600 mm) gibt es zahlreiche grosse, wenn auch kurze Flüsse. Problematisch sind die hohen Niederschlagsmengen - gerade in der Taifun-Saison. Denn dann gehen innerhalb kürzester Zeit riesige Mengen nieder. Der japanische Rekord liegt bei 806 mm innerhalb von 24 h - gemessen 1968 in Owase (Mie-ken, Kinki). Dass viele Wasser muss natürlich abgeleitet werden. Deshalb gibt es bei Saitama und Tokyo ausgeklügelte Systeme mit riesengrossen Fluttoren und grossen Retentionsflächen sowie Deiche. Das Gebiet zwischen Deich und Fluss wird ausserhalb der Regenzeit und Taifune als Sport- und Erholungsfläche genutzt. In diesem Fall als Baseballfeld (Volkssport #1 in Japan.)
Wenn man etliche Male in Saitama, genauer gesagt Ōmiya, Urawa und Iwatsuki war, ohne auch jemals ein Foto gemacht zu haben, hat das was zu sagen. Saitama ist einfach nur eine Satellitenstadt mit grossen Shoppingcentern, endlosen Wohnvierteln usw. usf. Iwatsuki 岩槻 ist nebenher gesagt bekannt für seine handgemachten Puppen.
Die Präfektur selbst ist bekannt für seine grosse Anzahl von alten Gräbern (kofun 古墳). Der Westteil ist sehr bergig (bis 2'475 m) und entsprechend kaum bewohnt. Der ganze Westteil, er grenzt an die Präfektur Nagano 長野, wurde zum Chichibu-Tama 秩父多摩甲斐国立公園 Nationalpark erklärt.
Anreise
Mit der Keihin Tōhoku-Linie kommt man schnell und entspannt nach Urawa 浦和 und Ōmiya 大宮. Die Linie beginnt in Zushi 逗子 an der Sagami-Bucht, fährt dann über Kamakura 鎌倉 (von Saitama 95 Minuten), Yokohama 横浜 (60 Minuten), Kawasaki 川崎 (53'), Tokyo-eki 東京駅 (35') und Ueno 上野 (27') nach Ōmiya und Urawa.
Fährt sehr häufig und ist zu den Stosszeiten gerammelt voll.
Viele der nach Norden fahrenden Shinkansen halten in Ōmiya.
