Zentrum von Sendai
Im Stadtzentrum von Sendai - ungewöhnlich breite Strassen und weniger ungewöhnliche rechteckige Häuser. Im Schachbrettmuster angelegt. Sendai ist mit knapp einer Million Einwohner die unbestrittene Metropole
von Tōhoku und war damit natürlich prädestiniertes Angriffsziel im WK II. Und es blieb nichts übrig. Auch gibt es ab und an schwere Erdbeben.Einen Grossteil seiner Bedeutung verdankt Sendai Date Masamune 伊達政宗, welcher 1601 seine Burg und damit den Herrschaftssitz von Iwadeyama nach Sendai verlegte.
Persönlich war ich nur wenige Stunden in Sendai, da auf der Durchreise nach Matsushima 松島. Es sah ein bisschen aus wie Tōkyō, aber sauberer mit viel weniger Verkehr und wesentlich breiteren Strassen.
Anreise
Sendai liegt an der Tōhoku-Yamagata-Akita Shinkansen-Strecke 東北山形秋田新幹線. So kommt man von Sendai in zwei Stunden nach Tokyo 東京, in 2 ½ Stunden nach Akita 秋田 sowie in anderthalb Stunden nach Hachinohe 八戸.
Zahlreiche lokale Linien fahren ebenfalls in alle Richtungen - so auch nach
Matsushima 松島.
Der Hafen von Sendai ist Ziemlich abseits vom Zentrum. Von dort fahren allerdings täglich
Fähren nach Tomakomai 苫小牧 auf Hokkaido - dauert wohl 15 Stunden und kostet knapp 9000 Yen. Diese Fähren (Higashi Nihon Ferî 東日本フェリー und Taiheiyō Ferî 太平洋フェリー) fahren auch nach Nagoya 名古屋.
